Parshall, N.D., June 2025 — In May, RTC Networks returned $2.2 million in Capital Credits to its member-owners. This year’s distribution was especially meaningful. For the first time in RTC Networks' history, Capital Credits were returned from the most recent allocation year, 2023, rather than following the traditional “first-in, first-out” model that prioritizes the oldest funds. This intentional shift was made to celebrate our newest members and to help educate them about one of the many benefits of being part of a cooperative.

“Capital Credits are more than a financial statement line item, they represent the unique structure and values of our cooperative,” said RTC Networks CEO/GM, Shane Hart. “We are proud to return a portion of our 2023 earnings to our members while continuing to build and upgrade the fiber network that connects our region.”

As a member-owned cooperative, RTC Networks doesn’t answer to shareholders, it answers to the people it serves. Excess Revenue is allocated to members based on their usage of RTC Networks services.  When the cooperative’s financial condition allows, these allocations are returned to the members in the form of Capital Credit checks.

Capital Credits help fund long-term infrastructure investments that strengthen the region, keep service costs in check, and deliver cutting-edge technology throughout western North Dakota and eastern Montana.

Unclaimed Capital Credits

If you had RTC Networks service in 2023, you would have received a check in the mail in May as part of this year’s Capital Credit retirement. As of recent, only about three quarters of the checks mailed have been cashed; about 2,700 checks remain uncashed. Members are encouraged to deposit or cash their checks soon to enjoy their share of their cooperative’s success. Checks that are not cashed will eventually be moved to RTC Networks’ list of unclaimed Capital Credits.
