October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Every day, we rely on connected devices to work, shop, bank, communicate, and stay entertained. That convenience also makes protecting our accounts and personal information more important than ever.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month is a great reminder that a few simple habits can go a long way toward helping you stay safer online:

  • Turn on Multifactor Authentication — Add an extra layer of protection to important accounts. Even if someone gets your password, multifactor authentication can help keep them out.
  • Keep Your Software Updated — Updates often include important security fixes. Turn on automatic updates whenever possible.
  • Think Before You Click — It’s estimated that 90% of successful cyber-attacks start with a phishing email.  Be cautious with unexpected emails, texts, links and attachments. If something seems suspicious, don't click. Instead, contact the person or company through a website, phone number or app you know is legitimate.
  • Use Strong, Unique Passwords — Don't reuse the same password across multiple accounts. A password manager can help you create and securely store strong, unique passwords.

RTC Networks encourages you to make cybersecurity a priority—not just in October, but all year long.
